Prevention – the foundation for long-term oral health

Regular prevention and professional teeth cleaning are important building blocks for the long-term health of your teeth and gums. They can help to reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease and to detect problems early.

Even though individual and genetic factors can affect oral health, consistent prevention achieves a great deal. Being more prone to tooth decay or periodontitis does not mean that dental problems are inevitable. What matters is coordinated prevention, good oral hygiene at home and regular professional check-ups.

Professional teeth cleaning – thorough and gentle

You yourself can actively contribute to your oral health. Alongside daily care at home, regular professional teeth cleaning helps to clean even hard-to-reach areas thoroughly.

Plaque, soft and hard deposits and tartar are removed gently. The tooth surfaces are then carefully polished to make them as smooth as possible and to make it harder for new deposits to form.

Consistent prevention can help to prevent tooth decay and gum inflammation, to identify existing risk factors early and to support the long-term stability of the tissues that hold your teeth.

Frequently asked questions

All frequently asked questions
  • What does professional teeth cleaning involve?

Professional teeth cleaning thoroughly removes soft and hard deposits as well as surface stains. The tooth surfaces are then cleaned and polished. Depending on individual needs, fluoride can also be applied to strengthen the enamel. Professional cleaning complements your daily oral hygiene and helps to maintain your oral health in the long term.

  • How often should professional teeth cleaning be done?

How often professional cleaning makes sense depends on your individual oral health and your risk of tooth decay and periodontitis. For some patients an interval of six to twelve months is enough, while shorter intervals may be advisable if the risk is higher. We will be happy to advise you and recommend a treatment rhythm suited to your needs.

  • Is professional teeth cleaning painful?

Professional teeth cleaning is usually well tolerated. If your teeth are sensitive or your gums inflamed, you may feel slight pressure or temporary sensitivity during treatment. Please let us know if you feel any discomfort so that we can make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

  • Does professional teeth cleaning make my teeth whiter?

Because deposits and surface stains are removed, teeth can look cleaner and brighter after professional cleaning. Their natural colour, however, does not change. If you would like your teeth to be noticeably lighter, professional bleaching may be a suitable option. We will be happy to advise you on the different options.
